About Us

Wigmore Evangelical Free Church is a friendly, Bible-believing Baptist church in the Wigmore area of Gillingham, Kent. We are a gathered community of people who seek to know God, love one another, and make Jesus Christ known. Whether you are a long-standing Christian, new to church, or simply visiting the area, you are very welcome to join us. We meet on Sundays at 11:00am and 6:30pm, and on Tuesdays at 7:30pm. On Sunday mornings there is a crèche for infants and Sunday School for children. We gather around the Lord’s Table on the first Sunday morning and the third Tuesday evening of each month. Our services are simple and reverent, centred on the reading and preaching of the Bible. A typical service includes hymns, prayer, Bible reading, and a sermon of around 30 minutes, where a passage of Scripture is explained and applied. Hymns are taken from Christian Hymns and our own supplement, and are usually accompanied by piano; in the morning hymns are displayed on an overhead screen. During the week, we also host a Coffee Morning every Thursday (10:30am–12:00pm), and Youth Groups on Friday evenings during local term time. Wigmore Evangelical Free Church has been meeting since 1942, and for over 80 years has sought to serve and share the Gospel with the people of Wigmore and Rainham. We are members of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC). We believe the Bible is God’s Word and that the heart of the Christian message is the good news (the Gospel): that salvation is found through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is by God’s grace, not by our own efforts, and is offered freely to all who come to Christ. We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who is loving, holy, and just.
