- Local outreach & community activities:
- Torquay has always been a very popular seaside town and is known as being part of the 'English Riviera' due to its fair weather and warm climate. Many make this a destination for their summer holiday and others have chosen Torquay as a place to retire to. However, over the years, Torquay has suffered some economic decline. Drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, homelessnes and mental health are all social problems within Torquay and the surrounding area of Torbay. From its central position within the town, all this gives Upton Vale Baptist Church a uniquely challenging but exciting opportunity in serving the community and seeking to minister the love of Jesus to Torquay. Whilst a wide range of external groups already regularly use our premises and the church buildings throughout the week, Upton Vale, together with other local churches, has developed strong links with our local council and other agencies. We have opened an Education Centre with Acorn Alternative Provision as we look to help those have struggled in main stream school. Members of the church are also involved with Street Pastors, New Footings Ministries (Winter Night Shelter), Unleashed Theatre Company (who work with homeless and the recovering communities in Torbay) and LiNX Christian Youth Trust (an inter-church secondary schools’ work), to name but a few. We are actively in the process of exploring other opportunities to be good news to our town. Our Purpose is to help people join the dots between who Jesus is and how we live. Our Vision is to be a community of people being changed by Jesus to bring change to the world. Our Values are: Faithful Expectancy, Bold Creativity and Authentic Humility.
- Other activities & ministries:
- B2gether provides a safe space on a Sunday, for adults with additional needs and for their carers to meet other friends, learn and develop their faith. The Pastoral Care Team keep in contact with those unable to attend church so regularly and provide communion, friendship and help whenever they can. Small Groups and House Groups meet regularly to learn and share the Bible teachings and encourage each other through the friendships formed.

Travel and Parking Info
Upton Vale is located on St Marychurch Road at Castle Circus (TQ1 3HY). We are on the main bus route, Torre and Torquay train stations aren't too far away or there is a good amount of on-street or paid parking (Town Hall car park) nearby. There are some free on-street parking spaces on St Marychurch Road outside of our main entrance. We ask our church family to leave those spaces for those with mobility problems as it's only a very short walk to our main entrance.
About Us
Upton Vale is a large and lively church family, based in the heart of Torquay. We want everyone who passes through our doors to feel very much a part of this loving and ever-growing church. Whatever your background, whether just visiting the Bay, exploring faith, returning to church or looking for a place to call 'home', we welcome you to Upton Vale. Being totally inclusive and for all ages, our purpose is to help everyone join the dots between who Jesus is and how we live our lives. This starts with our various ministries in the church, which then reach into our community and overseas. Our vision is a community of people being changed by Jesus, to bring change to the world. Interaction of all ages and from all walks of life, is greatly encouraged. Emily Twigg, is our Emerging Generations Team Leader, bringing a vibrant dynamic to this ministry. Being able to work with and encourage our young people to actively become more involved, she has seen parents, children and their families regularly participating in activities together as well as individually and enjoying church life as a family. We celebrate our faith every Sunday by coming together and sharing God's word and His love for us with songs of worship, using Makaton signing and led by a member of our worship team and the band, readings, prayers and on the second Sunday of every month; Communion. We all gather in the main body of the church for the first part of our service, then the children, young people and B2gether; our community of adults with additional needs, and their careres; go to their dedicated areas. All our Sunday Services have a supervised creche. We have recently appointed Simon Clay as our Senior Minister to lead our church. He will be taking up his new post in August. These are exciting times. We look forward to seeing you here at UV very soon.
