- Local outreach & community activities:
- We are very much part of our village community with most of those who belong to our church being part of other village activities including the Coffee AM in Sutton St Edmund Village Hall on a Wednesday morning, members of the Village Hall Committee and a Local Parish Councillor. At Easter-time we made a village-wide distribution of a palm cross to every home together with Easter Greetings and invitation to Easter events. This year on the Thursday before Easter, 17th April, (traditionally known as Maundy Thursday) we showed the film "Heaven. How I got Here", a powerful dramatisation about the thief on the cross who was executed beside Jesus; a hot cross bun and coffee am on Good Friday (18th April) with a focus on the significance of the death of Jesus and on Easter Sunday morning (20th April) we had a sunrise celebration and dressed the cross as well as our regular morning worship affirming the joy of Jesus' resurrection. Also included in this year's distribution was the booklet Why Easter? explaining the significance of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and an invitation to explore this further through ALPHA - a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment. Later in the year on Remembrance Sunday we participate in the service at Sutton St Edmund War Memorial, we organise Operation Christmas Child encouraging the local community to fill shoeboxes with Christmas gifts for children in less fortunate parts of the world and have a stall at the Christmas Fair. A further distribution of greetings and invitation to events is made nearer Christmas.
