About Us

St. James is a welcoming and worshiping Anglican community. We draw members from the Moss Side community and beyond. We have a Marathi speaking Anglican congregation worshiping as part of St James on Sunday's twice a month. St James has a free car park situated to the rear of the building and we have step free wheelchair access into the church building and a disabled toilet. We are on a cycling Bee Line and have bike racks outside the church. There is a hearing loop which is a special type of sound system for use by people with hearing aids. The hearing loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to T (Telecoil) setting. We also have large print bibles for your reading convenience. We have baby change facilities and a fun, bible-based group for children and young people during our weekly Sunday Service. Once a month we hold an All-Age Services to provide a time for worship together, celebrating God's family & experiencing how we all contribute to glorifying God. There is a time of fellowship after the service when refreshments are served . We have several groups meeting during the week including a Place of Welcome session on Tuesday offering refreshments, craft and fellowship, a bible study group and a children and toddler group called PlayRoom every Wednesday from 9.30am. Our building is used by many local organisations. Being situated beside Princess Road we are well located on bus routes and near bus stops. The building which stands today was completed in the early 1990s however the original church building, known as the Iron Church, was built in 1879. A new stone church was then built to replace this in 1888. Unfortunately, due to the building's deterioration, this was demolished in 1988. The parish of St James with St Clements takes in both the brewery and Asda in the north and extends westward across Princess parkway and the Alexandra Park Estate.
