About Us

The Bethel church is a Grade ll listed building established as a place of worship in 1814. Originally built as a Congregational church it is now part of the United Reformed Church (Congregational / Presbyterian union) in the UK. Being located very close to the Salvation Army Citadel and the Anglican Parish church, and only a short way from the Methodist church, the friendly congregation enjoys an excellent relationship with these churches, and is part of Churches Together in Chester-le-Street. Our worship is of a largely traditional format but we enjoy liturgical freedom and worship leaders are free to adapt the service to meet their needs. Our service to the community is in the form of various social and religious events.
