About Us

St Stephen's Church is part of the South Cheltenham Churches Team of five churches, built to the designs of John Middleton between 1873 and 1883. On entering St Stephen's, you are immediately aware that you are in a sacred space, rich in Christian symbolism and Catholic tradition. The richly carved stonework reflects the craftsmen's skill in creating beauty from natural materials; the colourful statues draw us into the invisible church, the Communion of Saints; the Reserved Sacrament reminds us of God's presence, the votive candles of the prayers of the faithful. The congregation is welcoming and enthusiastic in their support of a full programme of services and events including study, prayer and craft groups; pilgrimages; fairs, fetes and concerts.
