About Us
Welcome to the Russian Orthodox Parish of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, in Cardiff: an Orthodox community formed in the Welsh capital in 2010, with the registered charity number 1196793. Our parish is part of the world wide Orthodox Church, tracing its foundation to the day of Pentecost and preserving the ancient Faith and traditions of the first Christians and the early Church. Embracing the Orthodox legacy of these islands and blessed by the intercessions of the host of local saints, our community consists of Orthodox faithful from the locality and those who faithfully travel from further afield – some British and some from traditionally Orthodox countries – united in proclaiming the Gospel and serving the Lord, with a warm and welcoming openness to all who wish to join us in serving God within the Orthodox, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Our services are celebrated in English, Welsh and Church Slavonic (the liturgical language of the Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches). We celebrate public services each week in St John’s Church, St John’s Crescent, Cardiff CF5 1NX. Parking around the church is quite limited, but there is a carpark within walking distance behind the high street in Canton (Cowbridge Road). The Hours followed by Divine Liturgy begin at 11:00, with parishioners sharing a bring-and-share lunch after the service. We hope visitors will be able to stay, get to meet us and share in our post-Liturgy fellowship.
